The Goodfellow Tribe

(Hai perso la strada, viandante? Se stai cercando questa pagina in italiano, potrai trovarla QUI!)

The Goodfellow tribe is a nomadic group of moon elves that travel all around Horn Blu Island during the year.

It is an ancient tribe, that exists from since before Garoin split into three kingdoms more than one thousand years ago.

They are known for being playful, peaceful, open-minded, and curious, lacking both the snobbish behavior that high sun elves of the Third Reign tend to assume with other races or the more reserved one of wood elves; out of all the island's Elvish subraces they are the most likely to friendly interact with other cultures and pursue knowledge, especially in magical and arcane fields, by experimenting.

The knowledge gained they share among themselves; in time, this has made them splendid magic users, and crafters, merchants, and bards of great skill, envied and sought after as teachers by most other kingdoms for their noble offspring; it's very difficult to tie them down, however, because they highly value freedom. One can try to win a Goodfellow's loyalty only by shows of friendship, never only with coins or ranks.

Despite it being mostly a moon elf tribe, they are known to have adopted humans and half-elves with no difficulty among their own.

Every little Goodfellow is given a basic training on how to wield a weapon, although their focus is in spellcasting, which they start to be proficient in since they're little more than babies. There is no official hyerarchy among them; the resources that are farmed in the common fields are equally shared among the members and the kids are communally raised by the whole tribe. There is, indeed, no family name: despite the kids often knowing who their biological parents are, they will just take on the surname of "Goodfellow" like the rest of them. The exceeding products from the common fields are stored or sold to people outside of the tribe, but usually they are mostly involved in selling other kind of goods, such as books, clothing, and magical artifacts.

The money received from outsiders is stored in a common fund that will be used to provide the community with any luxury or good they cannot provide themselves, and support whichever Goodfellow might need it (for example, to start a travel far from the tribe to expand their studies).

Despite their friendly and fun-loving nature, people know they're quite powerful, and even bigger forces tend to try not to step on their toes since they can make formidable enemies as a whole, but will never make a war move first.

Notable members:

• Puck Goodfellow, bard and ambassador

• "Mad Maid" Marian, explorer

• Prosper and Ariel, masters of ceremonies

• Owen Robin Burnett-Goodfellow, personal assistant of the "Little Prince" of the Sun Kingdom, living far from the tribe at the moment.

Customs, traditions, and trivia

• One big family. A Goodfellow usually calls the others of the same tribe with familial names; while only the main caretakers get the title of mom, dad, or dam (mother, father, damer), the other adults present during one's growth are called aunts, uncles or auntles, and those of around the same age or younger are sisters, brothers, or siblings (sis, bros, sibs).

If the person is notably younger they could have a "little" added in front of their title, as in "little sister".

A biological parent calls their offspring "daughter", "son", or "childe", while every other kid they raise is usually a "little sibling".

Summer Camp. The Goodfellow tribe moves all over the island during all the year, except during summer, when they get to their Summer Camp lands and make a base there, where water is never missing, and nature and magic are strong.

Usually a little contingency of elves reaches the Camp in early spring to start seeding and preparing the soil for the arrival of the entire tribe, that will help with the rest of the heavier duties.

The Crown Wish. In order to keep the right to use the Camp when and how they wish, the Tribe has made a deal with Garoin, the original queendom that had power over the lands where they built their Summer Camp: everytime a Queen of Garoin gets crowned, as a sign of friendship, the Goodfellow tribe sends someone to fulfill one Wish expressed by the newly coronated queen, for how absurd and whatever it might be.

Usually this role is taken by Puck, which is probably the oldest and most magically gifted of the Tribe, other than the one that came up with this idea in the first place.

There's however, a catch. One has the right to only make one Wish per coronation, and they have to be careful to word it perfectly, because Puck is quite known for playing tricks whenever he sees the chance to, purposefully using the Wish's wording to cause mayhem. Other than fun, this might also be a move to ensure his tribe is treated with kindness and respect, as he's known to be more accomodating towards the Queens that had been interesting and kind to him and his people.

Parties and Seasons. Color parties, orgies, raves, festivals, birthdays, the Goodfellow tribe has it all and every opportunity is a good one to party! They're especially fond of seasonal celebrations, fondly welcoming each holiday on the wheel of the year. They are usually devoted to one or more deities related to nature or the moon like Gaia, Asgorath, Selene, various deities of the Seldarine (Angharradh in particular), and their eventual avatars.

A Journey to Knowledge. Moon elves have an innate wanderlust that the Goodfellows definitely do not lack; although the tribe members have strong bonds between one another, it's not uncommon for one of them to temporarily separate from the rest of the tribe in order to pursue a new adventure. They can stay away from the tribe for years and years before deciding to join back again.

The Festival of Yourself. Right after the Miracle March and the Summer Welcoming, the Goodfellows celebrate one of their most important festivals: the Festival of Yourself! The core spirit of the festival is to be proud and celebrate every little detail of you that makes you who you are, in your splendid uniqueness, the combination of your name, race, skills, likes, dislikes, gender, orientation, the bonds you care about and the rivalries you've created. There's various events that compose the holiday, among which there's always lots of music and marching all over the Summer Camp, chatting and singing, and having food and drinks.

Derived family names. Being a big tribe, sometimes it happens that some bloodlines stem from it but don't stay inside it. That's why there's several variations of the family name "Goodfellow" appearing for those who have some related heritage to them, like "Hoodfellow", "Hoodfell" or "De Goodfellow".

A matter of style. Like most moon elves, the Goodfellows usually keep their hair long. Braids and ponytails, with wire or beads, are not uncommon. They also love to wear colorful robes, and often ornate themselves with blue tattoos and beautiful jewels.
