Professor Seraphin Panorme is a marine biologist and the protagonist of "Fish Don't Cry," the first book in the OdysSea saga, co-protagonist with Sangreal. He specializes in the study of deep-sea fish and the conservation of the abyssal plain.
Appearance
Seraphin is a man, six feet tall (1.90 m), slender, thin, and with relatively large extremities (hands and feet), giving him an easily recognizable silhouette. He isn't particularly strong, but he is quite agile, though lacking coordination: he can jump quickly and high, but it's not guaranteed he'll land where he intended, nor will he land standing.
His hair is dark brown, almost black, a slightly de-saturated color, almost a warm gray/black, wavy and very well-groomed, charmingly styled so that a long lock of hair always falls over his forehead. As a boy, he wore earrings, but he stopped wearing them when he entered the workforce. However, in particularly important and formal situations, he can still show off a pair.
He has gray eyes, with slightly downturned corners. Often, due to the late-night research he conducts (or the late hours spent playing video games with his sisters), he has grayish circles under his eyes.
He doesn't have a very thick beard, although he occasionally tries to grow one.
He often dresses in his favorite color: a sort of blue-purple. Even his diving suit is the same color.
Personality
Seraphin is a kind man who enjoys talking to people younger than him, to amaze them, guide them, and help them understand the world. So much so that if he hadn't become a marine biologist, his job would have been as an elementary school teacher.
With people older than him, he tends to be a little more "bright" and it's not uncommon for him to flirt playfully. In love, he tends to be easygoing, thanks in part to his experience: well-groomed, perfumed, with excellent manners and a look that many consider pleasant, Seraphin is a great success with women.
His greatest drive is curiosity: for him, discovering new things about the world is the greatest pleasure.
He loves animals, plants, and even fungi and bacteria.
Trivia
- Although his passion is marine animals, he doesn't mind raising small freshwater fish: it's easy for him, and he enjoys sharing updates from his aquariums on the "family blog."
- His favorite fish, before meeting the pistrix, was for a long time the oarfish (Regalecus glesne).
- He loves playing games where you catch and collect creatures (like Pokémon or its "clones").
- Although he's excellent at maintaining freshwater aquariums, outside of the aquatic world, he doesn't have a green thumb, and his sisters take care of the houseplants.
- His family's surname, Panorme, derives from the name of the panormas, gigantic trees around which the most prosperous cities of his time were built. The name itself derives from the Latin "Panormus", meaning "all-port," but also refers to the gargantuan size of these plants.
